Unwind, revive, explore
We find it hard to leave the confines of our garden but there’s so much to do locally that it’s a shame to stay at home all the time. A weekend might include a trip to the beach for some fossil hunting, a picnic on the cliffs overlooking Golden Cap or a walk at Burton Bradstock with coffee at the Hive beach café or we’ll go to Bruton for At the Chapel doughnuts. I’ve jotted down some more suggestions here.
Bridport and Chesil beach are a great day out and we often venture into Exeter or Taunton if it’s raining. We love taking everyone to the pub: there are three good locals and some great restaurants nearby including Glebe House, Holm and River Cottage.

Our favourite pubs & restaurants
If you want Michelin star, Osip in Bruton is a 45-minute drive up the A303. We’d encourage you to try our locals first, though, as we think they’re up there with the best, all proudly supporting local farmers.

Holm, South Petherton, Somerset

Glebe House, Southleigh, Devon

The Cotley Inn, Wambrook, Somerset

King’s Arms, Stockland, Devon
Our closest pub. Great for a Saturday lunch in the beer garden. There’s a scenic circular walk you can do from the farmhouse if you have the time and inclination (our children draw a line at walking this far).
